Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) but also known as airplane plant, St. Bernard’s lily, spider ivy, ribbon plant, and hen and chickens is a species of perennial flowering plant. It is native to tropical and southern Africa, but has become naturalized in other parts of the world, including western Australia. The Spider Plant is easy to grow as a houseplant as the variegated forms are the most popular amoungst growers.
Growing Tips:
Native to South Africa, spider plants are an essential part of any hanging plant collection. Spider plants prefer bright light but not direct sunlight as they tend to scorch with to much. However, they will grow in conditions ranging from semi-shady to partial direct sun. Provide them with well-drained soil and bright, indirect light and they will flourish.
You should water them liberally through the summer and mist them occasionally. During winter, cut watering back.
